Soft Glam City Exploration.

Hello again everyone!

I hope the year has been progressing smoothly. This post is coming to you late thanks to this pesky cold that’s kept me laid up in bed for the past week. I went out for a little street photography exploration moment last week to hit the ground running for the beginning of this year. I wanted to make sure that I keep up with my goal of posting and shooting pics more regularly. I chose to head up to Soho to location scout for an in progress project as well as to get some photos with an independent singing duo known as Ehrie. I’ve written about them before when I did some BTS work for their new EP. You can find the post here.

Today we are exploring a soft glam aesthetic but using the city as the main backdrop instead of it all being in studio. We did a test shoot using a few different materials to get that faded 80’s look in camera instead of having to fake it. The best one was this iridescent tinsel, it was clear enough to let light through but also shiny enough to give us an amazing blur/ fog. Here are a few photos from that shoot:

To add a different effect, I brought along these 2 prisms I found at home. It reminds me of these photos I saw on Instagram a while back and thought it would be the perfect addition to the shoot. So, we hit the streets and got creative. We started a little later than scheduled and as a result had to work around the sunlight becoming harsh but I feel like we were able to get some amazing photos in. They wore leather & suede in different colors similar to the test shoot and rocked some cute accessories, including their Telfar bags! Inspired by a recent series of photos put out by the brand, it began to morph into a cool lifestyle commercial campaign type of feel.

Working with the tinsel became a bit of a hassle outdoors, as I foolishly forgot to account for this little thing called wind… but overall, the effect I ended up getting was still pretty close the test shoot vibe and looked pretty cool. The prisms on the other hand, were a bit too faceted for discernible photos but created these rather psychedelic kaleidoscope-esque photos, which I took and played around with in Photoshop to get this image here.

Overall, I think the shoot came out great. The tinsel didn’t work quite as planned but, Ehrie was happy, I got some cool photos to add to my portfolio, and most importantly, I got out and created something! You can find the full gallery from the shoot here.

Have you been getting out to shoot more so far this year? If so, let’s hear about some of the projects you’re working on; if not, what do you think might be holding you back from creating? I’d love to talk about it more in the comment section below.

Till Next Time

XOXO
